Mandala Monday – Healing the Heart Chakra by Jason Lincoln Jeffers

Anahata Mandala

Anahata Mandala

The fourth chakra is the heart chakra and is located in the exact center of the breast cage or chest. In Sanskrit it is represented by the Anahata Mandala which translates as “un-struck sound.” It is symbolized by four-legged mammals. The lower three chakras related to egoic energy and the higher three chakras relate to the higher self energy and its connectedness with Source consciousness. The heart chakra is the focal point where these to realms converge. It acts as a bridge between the lower self (ego) and the higher self (spirit).

When the heart chakra is in need of healing, the physical diseases will consist of lung, circulatory, or heart problems. We will feel dejected, unloved, unappreciated, uncared for, and will play the role of the martyr. We will not be able to receive or give love on an unconditional level. Love given outward always comes with a tether to something expected back in return. Therefore we fail in intimate relationships, intimate friendships, and end up feeling pretty lonely and disconnected in life.

Sometimes when this chakra is blocked, we may have been abandoned as children and then this same behavioral construct repeats itself throughout our life until we are able to forgive. With forgiveness comes acceptance to what already is. And it frees us from the bondage of our loneliness. Only through the act of forgiving those who have hurt us so deeply can the heart chakra be freed, and its true power released.

When the heart chakra is balanced, we will be exercising great compassion toward every human being and will be loving everyone in our lives unconditionally. In fact, we love and accept life unconditionally, no matter what challenge or situation it brings to us. This is known as living in the Now. Our lives take on new meaning because we understand the truth behind the aphorism; “You have to give to receive.” As a result, we become philanthropists, activists, and pursuers of altruistic endeavors. If we’re not helping others in some way, we’re simply not interested in spending the time and energy to do it.

A Spiritual Counselor can help to advise you on the proper tools and modalities for healing the heart chakra. The flowers and essential oils are: all green flowers or pink flowers, grass, clover, pine wood, ylang ylang, patchouli, peppermint, tea tree, neroli, jasmine, rose geranium, rose oil. The crystals for healing are: emerald, jade, rose quartz, green adventurine, agate, malachite, tourmaline, and dioptase.

TED Talk Thursday – Shimon Schocken: The self-organizing computer course

According to ted.com: “Shimon Schocken and Noam Nisan developed a curriculum for their students to build a computer, piece by piece. When they put the course online — giving away the tools, simulators, chip specifications and other building blocks — they were surprised that thousands jumped at the opportunity to learn, working independently as well as organizing their own classes in the first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). A call to forget about grades and tap into the self-motivation to learn.”

“Shimon Schocken is a former dean at Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya, a new Israeli private university which he helped found in 1995. He’s also taught at NYU, Harvard and Stanford. Together with Noam Nisan he developed a freely available, open-source, self-paced program for learning applied computer science: The Elements of Computing Systems. Offered in 2005, this led to one of the first successful open online courses. Now, courses based on the approach are offered by traditional universities as well as in crowd-sourced settings, and have been taken freely by thousands of self-learners over the web. Registration, lecture and project schedules are managed by volunteer course coordinators, and student questions are answered by the course alumni community.”

Enjoy this evocative and inspirational talk.

For those of you not familiar with TED Talks here is a brief summery from www.ted.com: “TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with two annual conferences — the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Oxford UK each summer — TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and Open TV Project, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize”
