TED Talk Thursday – Jonathan Haidt: Can a divided America heal?

TED Talk ThursdayAccording to TED.com: “How can the US recover after the negative, partisan presidential election of 2016? Social psychologist Jonathan Haidt studies the morals that form the basis of our political choices. In conversation with TED Curator Chris Anderson, he describes the patterns of thinking and historical causes that have led to such sharp divisions in America — and provides a vision for how the country might move forward.”

“By understanding more about our moral psychology and its biases, Jonathan Haidt says we can design better institutions (including companies, universities and democracy itself), and we can learn to be more civil and open-minded toward those who are not on our team.

Haidt is a social psychologist whose research on morality across cultures led to his 2008 TED Talk on the psychological roots of the American culture war, and his 2013 TED Talk on how “common threats can make common ground.” In both of those talks he asks, “Can’t we all disagree more constructively?” Haidt’s 2012 TED Talk explored the intersection of his work on morality with his work on happiness to talk about “hive psychology” — the ability that humans have to lose themselves in groups pursuing larger projects, almost like bees in a hive. This hivish ability is crucial, he argues, for understanding the origins of morality, politics, and religion. These are ideas that Haidt develops at greater length in his book, The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion.”

Please listen and contemplate this thoughtful talk.

TED Talk Thursday – Martin Pistorius: How my mind came back to life

According to TED.com: “Imagine being unable to say, “I am hungry,” “I am in pain,” “thank you,” or “I love you,” — losing your ability to communicate, being trapped inside your body, surrounded by people yet utterly alone. For 13 long years, that was Martin Pistorius’s reality. After contracting a brain infection at the age of twelve, Pistorius lost his ability to control his movements and to speak, and eventually he failed every test for mental awareness. He had become a ghost. But then a strange thing started to happen — his mind began to knit itself back together. In this moving talk, Pistorius tells how he freed himself from a life locked inside his own body.”

“Martin Pistorius is a web designer and author whose personal story borders on the unimaginable. In his book Ghost Boy, he tells the story of his return to consciousness after a horrible illness … and his struggle to tell the world that he was still there, inside his body, hoping to communicate.”

Enjoy this amazing and inspiring story.

Thursday Talks – Review of Access Bars by Neuroscientist Dr. Jeffrey L. Fannin

Access ConsciousnessEvery once in a while I find a talk that doesn’t come from TED but one I want to share because of my personal interest in the subject.

I have had my “Bars” run numerous times (probably well over 100) in the last few years, and it is a process that I highly recommend. I remember the first time I had them run, I walked into the session feeling pretty “normal” and I left feeling I had had the weight of the world removed from my shoulders, a weight I didn’t even know I was carrying.

Bars (and Access Consciousness in general) offer a chance to release old programing and begin a fresh, new perspective on life.

For all the “woo woo” skeptics out there, or those of you who have them in your life, I thought this video might provide a way to approach this topic from a more scientific perspective.

I highly recommend the Bars process and hope you will find this video interesting and informative. Enjoy!

This video was published on YouTube on April 11, 2015 by Access Consciousness. According to their post:  “This is a review of what occurs in the brain before and after an Access Bars session. Presented by neuroscientist Dr. Jeffrey Fannin with Gary Douglas & Dr. Dain Heer, creators of Access Consciousness.”

“Filmed at the Secret Knock Conference in San Diego, California March of 2015.”

“The Access Consciousness Bars are the very core and foundation of Access Consciousness. It can be the starting point of a great adventure and it can be something you add to your life that will assist you in creating a greater ease with everything.”

“The Bars are 32 bars of energy that run through and around your head that connect to different aspects of your life. We call all of the points you touch when using this modality “The Bars.” The Bars store the electromagnetic component of all the thoughts, ideas, attitudes, decisions and beliefs that you have ever had about anything.”

“Access Consciousness is now available in 173 countries. To learn more about Access Consciousness & The Bars go here: http://www.accessconsciousness.com
