“Make peace with your inner universe.
Find silence and take joy in who you are.
In this, your inner self will turn to gold.
From this, every moment gives forth your beauty.”

~ Rumi

About Atmara:

Atmara Rebecca Cloe began her work as a digital artist in the spring of 1996 when she purchased her first computer and began her digital art business. She is primarily self taught. She took a few art classes in college, but never had success with traditional media. “I had to wait for computer technology to be where it is now to find a medium where I could truly express my gifts.” Personal mandalas are her specialty and information about them can be found under the Personal Mandala link. All of Atmara’s work is available for licensing. If you would like more information about how Atmara creates her mandalas see the post The Magic of Mandala Making – Living Art. Atmara lives in the Ashland, OR where she is constantly inspired by the beauty around her, the love of her friends, and the antics of her very silly cat, Sophia.

TED Talk Thursday – Tiny home, big life – An experiment in simple living by Erin & Dondi Harner

According to TEDxFrontRange: “This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Tiny home, big life. How two twenty-somethings radically rearranged their priorities, downsized their stuff, built tiny, and live big. A happy life is a rich compilation of experiences, not stuff. Living simply gives you more time, more money, and more freedom to do what you love. Life is a compilation of experiences, not just stuff. Making the conscious decision to do things differently is both challenging and incredibly fulfilling. Dare to be different.”

“Erin and Dondi Harner are twenty-something professionals with a passion for living healthy, sustainable lives. Dondi is a civil engineer who works in Old Town Fort Collins, Colorado. As an engineer he is actively involved in sustainable site design for commercial and educational buildings. Growing up in Ithaca, New York, Dondi worked side-by-side with his father on many different construction and carpentry projects. This led to Dondi’s passion for alternative energy and sustainable building practices.”

“Erin is a nutritionist, business owner, speaker, nutrition blogger, healthy recipe creator, and published author. She works with clients nationwide to help them create optimal health through real food nutrition.”

“In 2012, Dondi and Erin decided to take on an experiment in simple living by building a tiny home and living a bigger life. They were disenchanted with the notion that buying more stuff would make them happy. They wanted to know if, in fact, living with less would make them happier. So, they designed and built a 181 square-foot tiny home powered by the sun. They live in their tiny home ‘Soleil’ full time and are (still) happily married. Their next project is a tiny home retreat to give others the opportunity to experience living in a tiny home for a day, week, or year. “

For those of you not familiar with TED Talks here is a brief summery from www.ted.com: “TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with two annual conferences — the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Oxford UK each summer — TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and Open TV Project, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize”

And here a brief summery of TEDx programs: “TEDx is an international community that organizes TED-style events anywhere and everywhere — celebrating locally-driven ideas and elevating them to a global stage. TEDx events are produced independently of TED conferences, each event curates speakers on their own, but based on TED’s format and rules.”

TED Talk Thursday – An interview with the founders of Black Lives Matter

TED Talk ThursdaysAccording to TED.com: “Born out of a social media post, the Black Lives Matter movement has sparked discussion about race and inequality across the world. In this spirited conversation with Mia Birdsong, the movement’s three founders share what they’ve learned about leadership and what provides them with hope and inspiration in the face of painful realities. Their advice on how to participate in ensuring freedom for everybody: join something, start something and “sharpen each other, so that we all can rise.” “

“Alicia Garza is an organizer, writer and freedom dreamer. She is the special projects director for the National Domestic Workers Alliance, the nation’s leading voice for dignity and fairness for the millions of domestic workers in the United States. She is also the co-creator of #BlackLivesMatter, an international movement and organizing project focused on combatting anti-black state-sanctioned violence.”

“Garza’s work challenges us to celebrate the contributions of black queer women’s work within popular narratives of black movements and reminds us that the black radical tradition is long, complex and international. Her activism connects emerging social movements, without diminishing the structural violence facing black people.”

“Garza has been the recipient of many awards for her organizing work, including the Root 100 2015 list of African-American achievers and influencers. She was also featured in the Politico50 guide to the thinkers, doers and visionaries transforming American politics in 2015. She lives and works in Oakland, California.”
