Mandala Monday – Exploring the Crown Chakra by Jason Lincoln Jeffers

Sahasara Mandala

Sahasara Mandala

The seventh chakra is known as the crown chakra and is located on the top of the head or crown area. In ancient Sanskrit, it is depicted as the violet-hued Sahasara mandala. It represents the portal to the spiritual, ethereal, or astral plane. This is the plane that we transcend to when we discard our physical bodies at the end of our physical life.

The crown chakra represents our spiritual or higher Self, and when it unfolds we will experience enlightenment or oneness with the Source of All. It is the vortex for which we become Self Realized. Its influences our inspiration, idealism, mystical wisdom, and connection with our own divinity. In the body it governs the cerebral cortex, cerebrum, central nervous system, glands, and hormone regulation and balance.

When the crown chakra is out of harmony or blocked, we may be completely driven by egoic desires. It’s all about me, myself, and I, and the rest of the world can drive itself off a cliff. Our spiritual nature will be suppressed and ignored entirely. Materialism is our god. The mystical side of life will not only go unnoticed, it may be seen as a threat to our self-identity. Only what we experience with our lower five senses will matter and nothing more. Deep, meaningful, spiritual connections with others and with life will totally elude us.

After the crown chakra is spinning properly and in perfect balance, a whole new perception of life and the universe becomes clear. Our ego dissolves and we become selfless. That’s not to mean that we allow others to take advantage of us. To the contrary, the higher Self has replaced the lower self and thus, we are able to walk through life with true confidence rather than cockiness. Fear of living on any level is taken out of the equation.

When we heal the crown, like an infant, we take our very first steps into a much larger world. Immediately inheriting the strengths of all other six chakras, we become the Next Human. No longer motivated by how we are seen by others, we are motivated, instead, by our ability to help and heal others. Essentially, we become light-beings and light-workers. We realize that we have an inherent duty to use our powers to better humanity and to leave her in a better place from whence we found her. Leading by example and inspiring others becomes our new mission in life.

There are a variety of modalities for healing the crown chakra. Healing herbs are: gotu kola and nutmeg. Healing aromatherapy: Cinnamon, Clove and Peppermint. Healing incense: Lotus and Gotu Kola. Healing crystals include: Amethyst, alexandrite, purple fluorite, sugilite, quartz crystal, diamond and selenite.

Mandala Monday – Exploring the Root Chakra by Jason Lincoln Jeffers

Maladhara

Maladhara Mandala

The first chakra is the root chakra or the Kundalini chakra. It is located at the base of the spine. It is represented by the Maladhara mandala, the element of fire and is symbolized by the snake or dragon. It is the foundation of the physical realm and it is through the root chakra that we remain grounded to Mother Earth or the sacred feminine, nurturing energies of Gaia. When it is dormant, the Kundalini remains coiled precisely 3 and 1/2 times around the tail of the spinal cord. Here it lies until it awakens and rises upward where it flowers at the top of the head or crown chakra.

The root chakra influences our energy, our drive, or primal instincts, and our fight or flight response. It is also rules our immune system. The root chakra governs our body’s survival mechanism, such as food, shelter, and security. Our relationships in early childhood, especially those which are associated with emotional and/or physical well-being are influenced by this chakra. It stimulates activity, exercise, and vitality, as well as our general health throughout life. If there was trauma in early life regarding these issues, then it will affect our physical health until we’re able to cleanse and heal this chakra. A Spiritual Counselor can give you helpful advice on how to heal your root chakra trauma.

The root chakra also relates to our material and financial achievements, success in business, and our status in society. How safe we feel in the world, how patient we are, and how well we are able to relax and be calm, are all governed by the first chakra. When it is balanced we will be in perfect health, feel free, happy, energetic, and will live our lives in a state of peace, balance, and tranquility. When it is out of balance, we will be greedy, selfish, overbearing, aggressive, and sadistic toward others. We will lack in an inner confidence and security with ourselves.

The physical ailments that may arise will include problems with the adrenal glands, thyroid, kidneys, and spinal column. Chronic ailments that are associated with a wounded root chakra are: chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, candida, spinal subluxation (spine or back problems), and TMJ disorder.

Healing methods to unblock and balance the root chakra include: cleaning and cooking in the home, living close to or working close to nature, walking in nature (especially barefoot), lighting candles and incense (cedar), and holding or wearing crystals (agate, bloodstone, hematite, garnet, ruby and red jasper). Some of the healing herbs for the root chakra are dandelion, calendula, hawthorne, red clover blossoms, eyebright, and lavender flowers.
