According to TEDTalks: “At TED2010, mathematics legend Benoit Mandelbrot develops a theme he first discussed at TED in 1984 — the extreme complexity of roughness, and the way that fractal math can find order within patterns that seem unknowably complicated.”
“Studying complex dynamics in the 1970s, Benoit Mandelbrot had a key insight about a particular set of mathematical objects: that these self-similar structures with infinitely repeating complexities were not just curiosities, as they’d been considered since the turn of the century, but were in fact a key to explaining non-smooth objects and complex data sets — which make up, let’s face it, quite a lot of the world. Mandelbrot coined the term “fractal” to describe these objects, and set about sharing his insight with the world.”
Enjoy.
For those of you not familiar with TED Talks here is a brief summery from www.ted.com: “TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with two annual conferences — the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Oxford UK each summer — TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and Open TV Project, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize”

Today I have both a mandala for you to color as well as an uplifting arrangement of “Let The River Run” by Carly Simon (arrangement by Craig Hella Johnson) and sung by the world renown choir, Conspirare.
First the mandala:

Download a larger version to color at: http://mandalasparapintar.blogspot.com/2015/01/mandalas-para-pintar.html, then listen to this fabulous choir while you are coloring.
According to Youtube this is: “Conspirare performance of “Let the River Run” by Carly Simon (arrangement by Craig Hella Johnson) from the PBS special “A Company of Voices: Conspirare in Concert,” a production of KLRU-TV in association with Conspirare. Conductor, Craig Hella Johnson. Recorded live at Dell Hall, Long Center for the Performing Arts, Austin, TX, October 2008. Available on DVD and Grammy®-nominated CD (Harmonia Mundi) at http://www.conspirare.org.”
I have the great good fortune to know Craig Hella Johnson and, as someone trained as a choral director, can honestly say he is a genius at arranging choral music and a world class choral conductor. I hope you explore more of Conspirare’s music on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/user/ConspirareChoir/feed?spfreload=10.
To see Craig’s TEDxAustin talk, which I highly recommend, see my post: https://nwcreations.com/ted-talk-thursday-tedxaustin-craig-hella-johnson/
Enjoy!

“About TEDx:
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)”
