According to TEDx Talks: “New age gurus suggest that we can heal ourselves by simply changing our minds, but is this concept grounded in cold, hard science? Lissa Rankin, MD explores the scientific literature, reviewing case studies of spontaneous remission, as well as placebo and nocebo effect data, to prove that our thoughts powerfully affect our physiology when we believe we can get well.

For those of you not familiar with TED Talks here is a brief summery from www.ted.com: “TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with two annual conferences — the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Oxford UK each summer — TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and Open TV Project, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize”
“About TEDx:
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)”

Sahasara Mandala
The seventh chakra is known as the crown chakra and is located on the top of the head or crown area. In ancient Sanskrit, it is depicted as the violet-hued Sahasara mandala. It represents the portal to the spiritual, ethereal, or astral plane. This is the plane that we transcend to when we discard our physical bodies at the end of our physical life.
The crown chakra represents our spiritual or higher Self, and when it unfolds we will experience enlightenment or oneness with the Source of All. It is the vortex for which we become Self Realized. Its influences our inspiration, idealism, mystical wisdom, and connection with our own divinity. In the body it governs the cerebral cortex, cerebrum, central nervous system, glands, and hormone regulation and balance.
When the crown chakra is out of harmony or blocked, we may be completely driven by egoic desires. It’s all about me, myself, and I, and the rest of the world can drive itself off a cliff. Our spiritual nature will be suppressed and ignored entirely. Materialism is our god. The mystical side of life will not only go unnoticed, it may be seen as a threat to our self-identity. Only what we experience with our lower five senses will matter and nothing more. Deep, meaningful, spiritual connections with others and with life will totally elude us.
After the crown chakra is spinning properly and in perfect balance, a whole new perception of life and the universe becomes clear. Our ego dissolves and we become selfless. That’s not to mean that we allow others to take advantage of us. To the contrary, the higher Self has replaced the lower self and thus, we are able to walk through life with true confidence rather than cockiness. Fear of living on any level is taken out of the equation.
When we heal the crown, like an infant, we take our very first steps into a much larger world. Immediately inheriting the strengths of all other six chakras, we become the Next Human. No longer motivated by how we are seen by others, we are motivated, instead, by our ability to help and heal others. Essentially, we become light-beings and light-workers. We realize that we have an inherent duty to use our powers to better humanity and to leave her in a better place from whence we found her. Leading by example and inspiring others becomes our new mission in life.
There are a variety of modalities for healing the crown chakra. Healing herbs are: gotu kola and nutmeg. Healing aromatherapy: Cinnamon, Clove and Peppermint. Healing incense: Lotus and Gotu Kola. Healing crystals include: Amethyst, alexandrite, purple fluorite, sugilite, quartz crystal, diamond and selenite.
